Mermaid apps for Confluence Cloud compared

Confluence Cloud does not draw Mermaid on its own, so you need an app. The Atlassian Marketplace has more than a dozen. This page puts twelve of them side by side: price, whether the app has the Runs on Atlassian badge, whether you need an outside account, live preview, PDF export and dark mode. Every fact comes from the app's Marketplace listing or its own docs, as we saw them on 2 November 2026.

Disclosure: Dortus makes one of the apps below, Mermaid Editor for Confluence. We tried to be fair. Corrections are welcome at support@dortus.com.

How to choose

Six questions that separate the apps. Answer them for your site first, then look at the table.

  • Does the data have to stay in Atlassian? Look for the Runs on Atlassian badge on the listing. It means the app runs on Atlassian's own platform and sends no data to servers outside Atlassian. Apps without the badge can still be careful with data; read their privacy policy and the listing's security section.
  • Is an outside account needed? Some apps link to a separate service. That can add features, but it is one more account and one more place where diagrams may live.
  • Do you export pages to PDF? Not every app puts the drawn diagram into a Confluence PDF export. If you send pages as PDF, test an export before you choose.
  • How do you edit? Some apps have code and a preview side by side that redraws while you type. Others draw from a code block on the page, or show the result after you save.
  • Do your readers use dark mode? Some apps follow Confluence's light and dark theme. Others draw a light diagram on a dark page.
  • What does it cost per user? Marketplace prices go by the number of users on the whole site, not the number of people who draw diagrams. A paid app on a site of 500 users costs more than the same app on a site of 50.

The apps side by side

Checked on 2 November 2026 on each app's Atlassian Marketplace listing (Cloud view) and, where noted, the vendor's docs. “Not stated” means the listing did not say; it does not mean the app lacks the feature. We left installs and ratings out on purpose: they change every day, and each app's listing shows the current numbers.

Wide table: scroll sideways on a small screen. Smaller apps we found but left out of the table, each under 100 installs on 2 November 2026: Mermaid Charts: Easy Inline Edit (Shawara), Merfluence, Mermaid Viewer for Confluence (Gluebin Softs), Mermaid Diagrams & Gantt for Confluence (Eriksen Labs), Crisp Mermaid Diagrams (DecisionsCalc), Mermaid Studio, Mermaid Diagrams & Templates (Aptify Tech) and Mermaid SVG Diagrams (softyways). Stratus Add-ons' older Mermaid Plugin for Confluence is for Confluence Server, not Cloud.

Each app in short

What each app is good at, in the words of its own listing. Follow the link to read the listing yourself.

Mermaid diagrams viewer (Atlassian Labs)

The most installed Mermaid app for Confluence Cloud, free and made by Atlassian Labs. You put the Mermaid code in a normal Confluence code block and the app's macro draws the diagram from it. It supports dark and light modes, and the listing says the app does not store or egress any data. The code is open source on GitHub. Listing: marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1232887.

Mermaid Diagrams for Confluence (Stratus Add-ons)

An app from a Platinum Marketplace Partner, with the second-most installs on this page and versions for both Cloud and Data Center. The listing names fully client-side diagramming, PDF export, and GitHub and GitLab integrations, and the app is Cloud Fortified. Its docs say you can pan, zoom and open a large view, and that no diagram data is sent, processed or stored outside Confluence. Listing: marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1226567. Docs: stratus-addons.atlassian.net.

Mermaid Chart for Confluence (Mermaid Chart Inc)

Made by Mermaid Chart Inc, the company behind Mermaid. The listing says you sign in to a Mermaid account to create and edit diagrams; existing diagrams stay visible without signing in. It names a visual editor, inline error checks, AI generation and real-time collaboration, with a free account or a paid Plus tier. A good fit if your team already uses Mermaid Chart. Listing: marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1234056.

Mermaid Charts & Diagrams for Confluence (weweave)

An app for Cloud, Server and Data Center, updated on 31 October 2026. The editor has a live preview, you can download a diagram as PNG, SVG or PDF, and the listing names themes, a data protection mode and remote sources for Mermaid code. Listing: marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1222572.

Mermaid (Narva Software)

Free, with the Runs on Atlassian badge, from a Gold Marketplace Partner. The listing says diagrams render in your browser, match Confluence's light and dark themes, and that you see what you will get before you save. It ships with Mermaid 12 and was updated on 26 October 2026. Listing: marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/2563578593.

Mermaid for Confluence (Tech Labs)

A paid app with syntax checking, error highlighting and a live preview in the macro editor. Listing: marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1224722.

It has the Runs on Atlassian badge; the listing says it moved to Forge in October 2026. It also has versions for Server and Data Center. Listing: marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1222792.

Apportunity: Mermaid Diagrams Macro for Confluence

Mermaid Diagrams Integration for Confluence (Skanda Atlassian Apps)

A paid app with a live preview whose errors name the failing line, light and dark themes that follow Confluence, PDF and Word export, and import of Mermaid code from GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket. Published diagrams keep showing without a subscription. Listing: marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1226945.

Mermaid Diagrams & Charts for Confluence (RVS Softek)

Free and built on Atlassian Forge, from a Silver Marketplace Partner. Code and preview side by side, redrawing as you type, and Git integration with GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket. Listing: marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/3305228805.

The listing says the app needs no Confluence permissions and makes no external calls. Version 3 is free for any team size. Listing: marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1928341778.

Mermaid Editor for Confluence (Dortus)

Our app, so read this one with that in mind. Free, Runs on Atlassian, no outside account. Code on the left and a live preview on the right that redraws as you type; an error says what is wrong and names the line. 12 examples to start from, zoom and open large on the page, SVG and PNG download, light and dark mode, and the last 20 versions of each diagram. Since version 1.3.0 (2 November 2026) a PDF export shows the diagram as a picture; a Word export shows the Mermaid code. The app counts a few anonymous events, such as a diagram inserted, through Atlassian's own platform, without diagram text or names; our privacy policy lists them. It is new: few installs and no reviews yet. Listing: marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/4235692896.

When to pick which

  • You want what most teams use, and a code block is enough. Mermaid diagrams viewer by Atlassian Labs. Free, most installs, made by Atlassian Labs, open source.
  • You want a long track record and the most reviews. Stratus Add-ons' Mermaid Diagrams for Confluence or weweave's Mermaid Charts & Diagrams. Both have been on the Marketplace for years and both are paid.
  • You also run Confluence Data Center or Server. Stratus, weweave and Toshihiro Sato have versions for both, so one app covers both sites.
  • Your team already works in Mermaid Chart. Mermaid Chart for Confluence uses your Mermaid account and adds AI generation and real-time collaboration.
  • You import diagrams from a Git repository. Skanda, RVS Softek, Stratus and weweave name Git or remote sources on their listings. Mermaid Editor for Confluence does not do this.
  • You need diagrams in Word exports. Apportunity, Skanda and Toshihiro Sato list Word export. Mermaid Editor for Confluence puts the code in a Word export, not the picture.
  • You want free, Runs on Atlassian and a live preview. Mermaid by Narva Software, Mermaid Editor for Confluence by Dortus, and on small sites Apportunity (free up to 10 users) or 9ByNight version 3. Install two on a test page and keep the one your team likes to type in.

Whatever you pick: draw one of your real diagrams, export the page to PDF, and look at it in dark mode before you roll the app out.

FAQ

What is the best Mermaid app for Confluence Cloud?

It depends on what you need. The most installed app is Atlassian Labs' free Mermaid diagrams viewer, followed by Stratus Add-ons' Mermaid Diagrams for Confluence. If you want an editor with a live preview, free, with the Runs on Atlassian badge, look at Mermaid by Narva Software and Mermaid Editor for Confluence by Dortus. Use the checklist on this page and try two apps on a test page before you decide.

Which Mermaid apps show the diagram in a Confluence PDF export?

These listings or docs mention PDF export: Mermaid Diagrams for Confluence (Stratus Add-ons), Mermaid Integration for Confluence (Toshihiro Sato), Mermaid Diagrams Integration for Confluence (Skanda), Apportunity, 9ByNight and Mermaid Editor for Confluence (Dortus, since version 1.3.0). weweave lists Confluence export, and PDF as a download format. Only for Mermaid Chart for Confluence: its listing says you sign in to a Mermaid account to create and edit diagrams. None of the other apps on this page said on its listing that an outside account is required.

Does Confluence Cloud draw Mermaid without an app?

No. In our tests in October and November 2026, a Mermaid block pasted into a Confluence Cloud page stayed a code block. You need one of the apps on this page, or you draw the diagram elsewhere and upload a picture.

How we checked

On 2 November 2026 we read each app's public Atlassian Marketplace listing for Confluence Cloud, without logging in and without installing the other apps, and for Stratus Add-ons also its public docs. We wrote down only what the listing or docs said. We did not test the other apps, so the table says nothing about how well each feature works. For our own app the facts come from its code and changelog. If something here is wrong or out of date, email support@dortus.com and we will correct it.
