Open questions buried in Confluence comments: how to find them and stop losing them
Someone reads a how-to page, gets stuck, and leaves a comment: "Does this also work for the EU region?" A colleague answers, or nobody does, and three weeks later the same question appears on another page. Comments are where a lot of real questions end up in Confluence. This page covers what Confluence Cloud lets you see today, where the gap is, and how to stop recurring questions from getting lost.
Two kinds of comments
Confluence Cloud has general comments, added below the content of a page, and inline comments, attached to a highlighted piece of text, an image or a video. Inline comments can be resolved: resolving removes the highlight, and you can do it while viewing or editing the page. Only the first comment of a thread can be resolved, not a reply. Atlassian's documentation describes resolving for inline comments only.
Per page: the comments panel
On a single page, select Show comments in the floating action bar. The panel lists the comments on that page and lets you filter to open comments. To see what was resolved, filter for Resolved; the green Reopen check brings a resolved comment back. On pages with enough discussion, Rovo can summarise the open comments on that page.
That is a good tool for the owner of one page. It does not help the person who owns a whole space.
Per space: the gap
Atlassian's documentation describes the comments panel for one page; it does not describe a view of all open inline comments across a space. The request to see all inline comments at once has been open on Atlassian's tracker since 2014 (CONFCLOUD-34510, 341 votes, status "Gathering Interest" as of October 2026). There are Marketplace apps that list unresolved comments across pages; we have not tested them.
Without an app, the practical routes are habits rather than features:
- Watch the pages you own. Watching a page notifies you of changes to it; check your notification settings for comments.
- Answer, then move. When a comment is really a question that others will have too, answer it, then put the question and answer into the page body or an FAQ, and resolve the comment with a link to where it now lives.
- A recurring review. Once a month, open the pages in your space that get the most comments and filter for open ones. It is manual, and it only covers the pages you open, but it is the only view Confluence offers today.
When comments are really a Q&A
If a space gets the same kinds of questions again and again, comments are the wrong container: they are attached to one page, they are hard to search on their own, and there is no way to mark which answer solved the problem. A place where each question stands on its own, with its answers and a best answer, works better. Our guide to Q&A in Confluence Cloud compares the options, including doing it with plain pages.
Full disclosure: Dortus makes AskSpace, a Q&A app for Confluence Cloud spaces. It does not read or move existing page comments; questions start in AskSpace, or are imported from a spreadsheet or from Questions for Confluence.
Short answers
Can I see all open inline comments in a space? Not with Confluence Cloud alone, as far as Atlassian's documentation shows. Per page, yes: Show comments, then filter.
Can general comments be resolved? Atlassian's documentation only describes resolving inline comments.
Can I get a resolved comment back? Yes: filter for Resolved in the comments panel and use Reopen. A deleted comment cannot be restored.
Can I turn comments off? A space admin can turn commenting off for a space.

AskSpace by Dortus
Questions and answers per Confluence space
Ask, answer, vote and mark one best answer, with separate rules for who may ask and who may answer. Runs on Atlassian Forge; your questions are stored by Atlassian, not on Dortus servers.
